When will the call to lay down arms come? House arrest for terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan is on the agenda!

Following the call by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, the DEM Party, which visited İmralı to meet with PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan, has been visiting political party leaders in the Turkish Grand National Assembly and Ankara.

The DEM Party delegation, which includes Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Pervin Buldan, and former Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk—who was replaced by a government-appointed trustee—will visit former HDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, who are currently in prison, following these meetings. The DEM Party delegation, which is scheduled to meet with Demirtaş on January 11 and Yüksekdağ on January 12, is also expected to meet with former Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Selçuk Mızraklı.

Following these visits, the DEM Party delegation is expected to meet with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan again next week.

According to a report by Hürriyet, DEM Party sources expect a roadmap to be drawn up during the second meeting and for Öcalan to issue a call to lay down arms in mid-February.

In parliamentary lobbies, it is emphasized that if developments continue positively and a legal regulation comes to the agenda, it will not be a new execution regulation such as an "amnesty" or "general amnesty." It is stated that if terrorist organizations reach the stage of laying down arms, Öcalan could be placed under house arrest using the "house arrest (not leaving the residence)" method, which is an alternative execution model in the current system.
