Teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch detained Ahmet Özer on charges of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization." As a result of the investigations, it was determined that Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer had various contacts with members of the PKK terrorist organization over the last 10 years. It was determined that Özer had communicated with PKK terrorists a total of 694 times and had established contact with Kongra-Gel co-chair Remzi Kartal 14 times.
