The election took place today at 1:00 PM. The names of Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş and Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün were prominent in the corridors. However, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated in his announcement regarding the election that a council member who is not a district mayor would be designated as the Deputy Mayor. WHO WILL BE THE CHP'S CANDIDATE?
When Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained, he had given power of attorney to Nuri Aslan in his own handwriting. Aslan, who has been serving as the IMM Deputy Mayor since March 20, was nominated by the CHP.
WHAT IS THE DISTRIBUTION OF POWER AMONG PARTIES IN THE IMM ASSEMBLY?
There are a total of 314 members in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Assembly. In the Assembly, the CHP has 185 members, the AKP has 120, the MHP has 7, and the BBP has 2.
WHO IS NURİ ASLAN?
Nuri Aslan was born in Sivas in 1969. After completing his primary and secondary education in Istanbul, he was admitted to the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of Yıldız Technical University. After graduating in 1990, he began his professional career and started working at a private company in 1991. Today, he serves as the General Manager of the same company.
His involvement in politics began between 1999 and 2004 as a Municipal Council Member in the Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul. Subsequently, he served as the Deputy Chairman of the Kızılay (Turkish Red Crescent) Küçükçekmece branch between 2009 and 2017. Between 2014 and 2018, he held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Beylikdüzü Industrialists and Business People Association (BEYİSİAD).
Nuri Aslan was elected as the 1st Deputy Speaker of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly from the CHP in 2024.
