Why was İsmail Saymaz's passport cancelled?
Journalist Fatih Altaylı criticized the travel ban imposed on İsmail Saymaz and the confidentiality order regarding the Medya A.Ş. investigation.
Journalist Fatih Altaylı criticized the travel ban imposed on his colleague İsmail Saymaz and the confidentiality order on the case, writing that his passport had been cancelled and that the reason for the cancellation was the investigation into Medya A.Ş., a subsidiary of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB).
Stating that sufficient information could not be obtained due to the confidentiality order on the file, Altaylı mentioned "leaks" and said that the following accusations were being made against Medya A.Ş.:
"That money was transferred to certain media organizations through this company under the guise of 'advertising' or 'production' fees, that payments were made to journalists through companies they established, and that some media companies were even purchased through shell organizations.
Among the names subject to the investigation, in addition to Ekrem İmamoğlu and Murat Ongun, the names of Necati Özkan, who has been a companion to İmamoğlu from the beginning, documentary director and producer Cengiz Özkarabekir, and one or two others are mentioned.
We do not know the full content of the allegations against them, and even if we did, we cannot write about them.
But here is what we do know. All of these allegations are also valid for AKP-run municipalities. If a crime is to be derived from this, it means that the same crime is being committed much more deeply in all AKP-run municipalities.
If the accounts of some trolls and social media influencers are examined, all other accusations would pale in comparison to what is happening here. No one is saying 'Open the windows, turn on the heaters' for nothing."
