WILL IT TRIGGER ISTANBUL? STATEMENT FROM AHMET ERCAN

Whether the Gemlik earthquake, which caused short-term panic, would affect Istanbul became a subject of curiosity. A statement regarding the matter came from Earthquake Expert Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan.

"THIS EARTHQUAKE IS A FORESHOCK"

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan stated in a post on his X account: "At 10:42, the southern branch of the North Anatolian Fault, coming through Akyazı, İznik, and Gemlik, created an M5.1 earthquake at a focal depth of 5.4 km in Mudanya-Kumyaka. The earthquake expected to be generated by the southern branch near İmralı is M6.4. This earthquake is a foreshock. However, it is unrelated to the northern branch and Istanbul."
