Will winter arrive later than expected in Istanbul? Date given for snowfall
As December begins in Istanbul, expectations for snowfall have risen. Experts have shared their forecasts regarding when snowfall will occur in the city this year.
The warm weather that persisted throughout autumn in Istanbul, followed by recent rainfall, has brought the anticipation of snowfall back to the forefront for the city's residents. With the cooling of the weather in the first days of December, the question “When will snow fall in Istanbul?” has begun to be asked frequently.
According to the latest assessments by experts, the probability of significant snowfall in Istanbul during December appears low. Based on weather analyses, cold polar air masses are expected to reach the western parts of Turkey only in the second half of January.

Accordingly, most of December is expected to be relatively mild and rainy for Istanbul. While intermittent precipitation is expected throughout the city over the coming week, it is reported that the rains will be effective until Monday and air temperatures will hover around 15 degrees.
According to clearer forecasts regarding snowfall, winter is expected to begin making its impact felt in Istanbul and snowfall is expected to be seen after the middle of January. While the probability of snow remains weak in the western regions, snowfall may be observed in the higher regions of Anatolia starting from the second half of December.
Although the winter atmosphere seems a bit distant for Istanbulites for now, meteorological experts point out that snowfall could take the city under its influence in the second half of January.
