Stating that it is not surprising for AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to reappoint Murat Kurum despite his election loss, Kulat said, "It is not very surprising that Murat Kurum has returned after losing the Istanbul election; Mehmet Özhaseki had also lost the Ankara elections. Expressing that the Kanal Istanbul project will return to the agenda with Kurum's arrival, Kulat spoke as follows:
