Woman claiming to be in US military scams man: 'There is no love. I couldn't fall in love'

34-year-old private security guard Hilal Hüner, living in the Yarseli neighborhood of Altınözü district, made contact with a user named 'Maria Miles' on social media. Hüner, who continued messaging in Turkish after starting in English with the account that used a woman's photo, kept chatting after the woman lied about being in love with him. Hüner, who sent the 24,321 TL the woman requested from him, realized later that he had been scammed.

After the account, which claimed to be a sergeant in the American military serving in Yemen, said she needed financial help to smuggle 2 gold bars and 700 thousand dollars in cash out of the country, Hüner sent 24,321 TL to the account number provided by the scammer under the guise of shipping fees.

Realizing he had fallen into the trap of scammers after depositing the money, Hüner went to the Babatorun Gendarmerie Station Command and filed a complaint against the individuals who scammed him. Unable to understand how he fell into the scammers' trap, Hüner warned others not to be deceived by these individuals.

'SHE SAW MY PHOTOS AND LIKED ME'

Describing the process of starting to message with the fake account, Hilal Hüner said, 'Someone named Maria Miles sent me a message on Instagram to meet. She said she was in Yemen and was on a military peacekeeping team.'

Hüner also added the following to his words:

'She said she had seized a large bounty there and wanted to get these spoils out of the country via a cargo vehicle. She said she would come to Turkey with 700 thousand dollars and 2 gold bars, invest here, and make me a partner. She liked me a lot. She saw my photos and liked me a lot. I don't believe in such things, but I got attached and I am a victim.'

SENT THE MONEY TO A TURKISH MAN'S ACCOUNT

Realizing he was scammed after depositing 24,321 TL into the account of a male individual named Mehmet K., Hilal Hüner stated the following:

'There is no love. I couldn't fall in love at all. She kept messaging me, asking me to send the shipping fee. I paid 24,321 TL for the shipping. Then I felt I had been scammed.'

'I don't want others to be scammed, to get hurt, or to become victims. I want these gangs or networks to be caught as soon as possible so that others don't get hurt. I am someone who didn't believe these things would happen to me, but unfortunately, it happened to us. My 24,321 TL is gone. I went to pay it as a shipping fee. While I should have deposited it into a company account, I went and deposited it into a personal account. I cannot reach Maria Miles. They closed her account and set up a fake account.'
