Wreath crisis between CHP and Anıtkabir Command
CHP leader Özgür Özel made his first official visit to Anıtkabir yesterday in his capacity as party chairman. It was learned that a brief crisis occurred during the visit due to a request to lay a wreath at the grave of İsmet İnönü.
It has been learned that a 'wreath crisis' occurred between the Anıtkabir Command and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel during his first official visit to Anıtkabir yesterday following his election.
According to a report in Gazete Duvar, a crisis arose with the Anıtkabir Command prior to the visit Özel was to make with the newly elected members of the Party Assembly and High Disciplinary Board, due to a request to lay a wreath at the grave of İsmet İnönü.
According to the information obtained, as part of Özel's Anıtkabir visit, a visit to the grave of the 2nd President İsmet İnönü and the laying of a wreath were planned as part of the program following the laying of a wreath at Atatürk's mausoleum.
However, it was stated that permission to lay a wreath at İsmet İnönü's memorial tomb was denied, citing regulations, and that this practice has been in place for 4 years. Upon the rejection of the request, Özel stated that 'there is no need to obtain permission to lay a wreath at the grave of his party's founder and the 2nd President İnönü.' Following his insistence, the communication traffic between the Anıtkabir Command and the CHP Headquarters increased. With Özel insisting on his request, the obstacle was removed, and Özel laid the wreath prepared for İnönü's grave.
