Yılmaz Tunç announces... Change in the penal execution system: Prison sentences are coming for crimes under 2 years

Regarding the changes to the penal execution system announced by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç said, "Those who receive sentences under 2 years will also enter prison." Expressing that the public is also uncomfortable with good conduct time reductions, Tunç stated, "We are re-evaluating good conduct and supervised release. Good conduct reduction will not apply to every crime."

Responding to journalists' questions, Yılmaz Tunç's statements are as follows:

PENAL EXECUTION SYSTEM TO CHANGE

Our criminal justice system consists of investigation, prosecution, and execution. Our criminal justice system must be a deterrent.

We have preparations regarding the Judicial Reform Strategy Document. There has been work on the Judicial Reform Strategy Document for 1.5 years.

We received opinions from scientists. We received opinions from our citizens. So far, 45 thousand opinions have been received. We evaluated these in long meetings and workshops.

We will have a number of regulations regarding the perception of impunity. Especially regarding crimes under 2 years, the fact that these crimes do not have actual prison time causes discomfort in the public. Those who receive sentences under 2 years will also enter prison.

GOOD CONDUCT REDUCTION

We are re-evaluating good conduct and supervised release. Good conduct reduction will not apply to every crime. We are conducting alternative studies on this. New types of crimes may also be added to catalog crimes.

NEW JUDICIAL PACKAGE

It is on our Parliament's agenda. It is at the General Assembly stage. We provided our contributions to them during the draft studies. The package contains some issues regarding the fight against crime and criminals that will speed up the judiciary and prevent delays. The judicial proposal regarding the 10th Judicial Package will soon be submitted to the commission.

NARİN MURDER INVESTIGATION

The investigation is continuing meticulously. There are currently detainees. There are suspects under judicial control. There were camera images identified. Their evaluation was carried out at TÜBİTAK. Statements of nearly 250 people were taken. Retrospective HTS records were examined. Very important data was reached with narrowed base station overlap. The final stage of technical work has been reached. The indictment preparation process has begun.

When the indictment is revealed, they will see who Narin's killers are.

ARTICLE 3 DEBATE IN THE CONSTITUTION

There is no question of a debate regarding the first 4 articles of our Constitution. Our Parliament Speaker also expressed this. Our Parliament Speaker showed that this was not his intention. There is an effort for a new constitution by establishing a subject of consensus without debating the first 4 articles. Turkey needs a new constitution.

DEATHS AT THE GEBZE SHELTER

An investigation has been launched. If there are practices contrary to the law, the necessary sanctions will be implemented. This law was portrayed as a law to kill animals. This law was for both keeping animals alive and making the streets safe.
