Young man who accidentally shot himself while cleaning a gun he bought without his family's permission dies
A young man in Şanlıurfa has died after accidentally shooting himself while cleaning a handgun he had purchased with his own savings without his family's knowledge.
The incident occurred in the Akıncık hamlet, which is part of the rural Kuskunlu neighborhood in the Hilvan district. According to reports, 23-year-old Sedat Basmacı went to a shed in his garden to clean a gun he had purchased with his own means. While he was cleaning the weapon, it accidentally discharged. Basmacı, who was critically wounded after being struck by the stray bullet, was rushed to the Hilvan Şehit Halit Şiltak State Hospital in a vehicle belonging to his relatives. Despite all medical interventions, Basmacı could not be saved. His body was released to his family for burial following an autopsy at the Şanlıurfa Forensic Medicine Institute morgue.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
