YSK accepts DEM Party's appeal

The Van Provincial Election Board had ruled that DEM Party candidate Abdullah Zeydan did not have the eligibility to be elected and had given the certificate of election to the AKP candidate Abdullah Arvas, who received the second-highest number of votes.

Upon the DEM Party's appeal, the YSK put an end to the certificate of election debate with the decision it reached. In the decision taken by majority vote, it was stated that 'Abdullah Zeydan can be given his certificate of election'.

With the YSK decision, it was decided that the certificate of election would be given to DEM Party's Abdullah Zeydan.

In the local elections held in Van, DEM Party candidate Abdullah Zeydan had finished the election with 245 thousand 573 votes and a vote share of 55.48 percent.

AKP candidate Abdulahat Arvas, on the other hand, had finished the election in second place with 120 thousand 147 votes and a vote share of 27.15 percent.

STATEMENT FROM DEM PARTY

DEM Party YSK Representative Mehmet Rüştü Tiryaki announced that the certificate of election was returned to Abdullah Zeydan by the YSK.

Tiryaki stated, "The YSK accepted our appeal by majority vote. It overturned the Van Provincial Election Board's decision and decided that the certificate of election be given to Zeydan."
