18,000 companies shift from loss to profit following tax audits
Following the Tax Inspection Board's Declaration Monitoring Program, the corporate tax base of 18,000 companies increased by 32 billion liras. Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek highlighted the importance of the voluntary compliance process.
The Ministry of Treasury and Finance has announced that the Tax Inspection Board (VDK), through its Declaration Monitoring Program, has increased the corporate tax base of 18,000 taxpayers. The program, launched in April, aims to contact taxpayers before the declaration period to inform them about their risk status.
Within the scope of the program, 500,000 taxpayers were screened, and 40,000 were identified as high-risk. These taxpayers were invited to a voluntary compliance process, and as a result, 18,000 taxpayers increased their tax base by 32 billion liras. Additionally, 1,046 taxpayers who had declared losses in 2023 and 2024 declared a profit of 2.36 billion liras this time.
Some taxpayers, on their own initiative before the audit, filed correction declarations, increasing their tax base by 502 million liras and removing 234 million liras of losses from their declarations. During this process, half of the taxpayers corrected their tax bases, and some were removed from the risk category.
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek emphasized the importance of the voluntary compliance mechanism, stating, "We are using new analysis techniques and field audits to identify risky taxpayers. We invite our taxpayers who do not want to face tax audits and penal sanctions to the voluntary compliance process." Şimşek noted that this effort offers taxpayers a significant opportunity before audits take place.
While it was stated that the Declaration Monitoring Program has achieved a 70 percent success rate, it was noted that audit procedures will be initiated for taxpayers who do not comply.
