800 thousand investors had fled: Stock market starts the new year with a rise
Following the decline in the stock market in the last week of 2023, over 800 thousand investors had exited the market. Most recently, the BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul started the new year with a 0.96 percent rise at 7,542.25 points.

At the opening, the BIST 100 index rose to 7,542.25 points, an increase of 72.07 points and a 0.96 percent gain compared to the previous close.
The banking index recorded an increase of 1.29 percent and the holding index 0.85 percent. Among sector indices, the biggest gainer was communication with 2.30 percent, while the only decliner was sports with 2.96 percent.
On Friday, the BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul, which followed a buying-weighted trend, completed the day with a 1.00 percent gain at 7,470.18 points.
