A week of surprises in the markets: Which investment vehicle gained the most?
While stocks on Borsa Istanbul ended the week with a 2.90 percent decline, the dollar and euro gained value. Gold prices saw a retreat. Among investment funds, "precious metal" funds were the top performers.
Stocks traded on Borsa Istanbul lost an average of 2.90 percent in value on a weekly basis. Different movements were observed in the foreign exchange and gold markets. The dollar/TL exchange rate rose by 0.01 percent, while the euro/TL increased by 1.81 percent. The gram price of gold recorded a 0.80 percent decline.
The BIST 100 index saw its lowest level of the week at 9,339.67 and its highest at 9,643.17. However, the index closed the week at 9,379.83 points, a 2.90 percent loss compared to the previous week's close.
In the Grand Bazaar, the gram selling price of 24-karat bullion gold decreased by 0.80 percent this week to 3,720 liras. Republic gold also fell by 0.77 percent, finding buyers at 25,180 liras.
The selling price of quarter gold, which was 6,281 liras last weekend, fell by 0.73 percent to 6,235 liras.
In the foreign exchange market, the dollar rose by a limited 0.01 percent to 38.0140 liras. The euro saw a 1.81 percent increase, reaching the 41.8720 lira level.
On the other hand, investment funds closed the week with a 0.31 percent increase in value, while pension funds saw a 0.28 percent gain. Among investment funds, the category that gained the most was "precious metal" funds with 2.91 percent.
