Access issues with bank mobile applications
The detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu as part of a 'terrorism' and 'corruption' investigation has sent markets into a tailspin. The stock market experienced a sharp decline, while foreign currency and gold prices hit record highs. Alongside these developments, it was reported that users are experiencing issues accessing bank mobile applications.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a 'terrorism' and 'corruption' investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM).
As part of the investigation, over 100 people, including IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, have been detained.
The detention of İmamoğlu has caused volatility in the markets. Foreign currencies have surged to record levels. In free markets, the dollar opened the day at 36.7510 Turkish Lira, and the euro at 40.2140 Turkish Lira. On Borsa Istanbul, the BIST 100 index fell by 6.87 percent at the opening. Following this, a circuit breaker was triggered, and trading was suspended.
The internet monitoring organization NetBlocks reported that access to Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube platforms has been restricted in Turkey.
On the other hand, it was learned that there are also issues with the mobile banking applications of various banks.
Customers have reported that they are unable to access their banks' mobile applications.
ŞİMŞEK HAD MADE A STATEMENT
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek made a statement regarding the situation in the markets, noting the following:
"Everything necessary is being done for the healthy functioning of the markets. The economic program we are implementing continues with determination."
