Affecting millions of workers: New proposal for minimum wage at AKP retreat

The AKP held its 32nd Consultation and Evaluation Meeting in Kızılcahamam. It was learned that during the 3-day retreat, members of parliament requested a new arrangement for the minimum wage.

According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi, the economic crisis was a prominent topic during the "common sense" sessions of the retreat. Many MPs emphasized that access to basic necessities has become difficult due to the impact of inflation, noting that rising rent prices, in particular, are burdening citizens. It was claimed that the MPs argued that under these conditions, it has become nearly impossible to make a living on the minimum wage.

AKP deputies stated that the minimum wage should be increased twice a year, just as it is for civil servant salaries.

NEW REGULATION FOR HOBBY GARDENS ON THE HORIZON

Another important topic at the retreat was hobby gardens built without authorization on agricultural land. The recent demolition of these gardens by governorate decisions in many provinces was met with backlash from some MPs. Stating that the demolitions have caused dissatisfaction among citizens, it was proposed that a legal framework be established for these areas. According to information obtained, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry have begun a regional study. As a result of the study, it is planned to grant legal status to certain areas, albeit on a limited basis.
