An era in aviation has ended: 34-year-old company declares bankruptcy

The Bakırköy 1st Commercial Court of First Instance officially declared the bankruptcy of Onur Air Taşımacılık A.Ş. with a decision taken on April 16, 2026. The company, which could not recover from the economic difficulties caused by the pandemic, had suspended its flights in 2021. With this final decision from the court, it has been legally finalized that Onur Air's commercial activities have been completely terminated.

The case file, which was brought back to the agenda after being overturned by the appellate court last November, was re-evaluated by the Bakırköy 1st Commercial Court of First Instance. With the final bankruptcy decision, bankruptcy file number 2026/25 was opened, and all official processes were initiated. The court recorded the time and date of the bankruptcy registration and referred it to the relevant enforcement and bankruptcy office. In the next stage, all of the company's assets and properties will be taken under control for the benefit of creditors.

Entering the sector in 1992, Onur Air held an important place as one of Turkey's first private airlines. The company, which gained growth momentum especially after the liberalization of domestic flights in 2003, is known as one of the first firms to introduce the low-cost airline concept in Turkey. It left its mark on its era with an Airbus fleet consisting of 29 aircraft and over 1,600 employees. The company provided flights to more than 120 destinations in 25 countries for 25 years and broke records in the sector by carrying over 90 million passengers in total.

All commercial transactions carried out at Onur Air's main building in Yeşilköy have been terminated. The bankruptcy office will list all movable and immovable properties, technical vehicles, and commercial equipment belonging to the company and prepare them for sale. The rights of creditors, primarily employees, will be met with the proceeds from the sale.

Onur Air's journey in aviation has officially come to an end, as it could not recover due to the financial bottleneck it experienced following the global coronavirus pandemic and frequently made headlines with its debts to its employees.
