Are pay raises on the horizon for retirees and civil servants?

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced April inflation at 3.18 percent on a monthly basis. On an annual basis, April inflation was determined to be 69.80 percent.

According to TÜİK, the inflation rate for January was 6.5 percent, for February it was 4.53 percent, and for March it was 3.16 percent.

Speaking to Milliyet, certified public accountant and economist Muhammet Bayram said, "There will also be an extra welfare share increase here. I think an increase will be made for both civil servant retirees and SSK and Bağkur retirees, along with a 5-point increase."

"I DO NOT THINK THERE WILL BE A WELFARE SHARE"

Bayram explained why he does not think there will be an extra welfare share increase for civil servants as follows:

"Because there was a promise made before the May 14-28 elections, and it was kept. A flat raise plus a proportional increase was implemented. The lowest civil servant salary first reached the 22 thousand TL level, and with the latest raises, this rose to the 33 thousand TL level."

Stating that there is a wage imbalance in the private sector due to the raises given to civil servants, Bayram said, "The salary of a person who has worked in the private sector for 10 years has become the same as the salary of a person who has just started civil service. I think this will be balanced by not giving a flat raise to civil servants."
