Argentina to elect new president in the shadow of economic crisis

Left and Workers' Front candidate and activist Myriam Bregman stated that she intends to completely break away from International Monetary Fund (IMF) policies and will work to increase employment and the minimum wage.

LATIN AMERICA'S 3RD LARGEST ECONOMIC POWER

Among Latin American countries, Argentina ranks third after Brazil and Mexico due to its highly educated population and strong economic potential in the region.

In Argentina, inflation, which is rising at an unstoppable pace, has exceeded 130 percent, reaching its highest level in recent years, while the national currency, the peso, has also suffered a serious loss of value against the dollar.

Experts predict that regardless of which candidate wins the election, the peso's loss of value against the dollar will increase by another 70 percent.

"A GREAT MYSTERY MAY EMERGE FROM THIS CRISIS ENVIRONMENT"

Political analyst Nacho Montes, speaking to the Argentine press, argued that the economic crisis and the massive devaluation of the Argentine peso would influence the public's electoral choices.

Stating that the country is going through a "deadly crisis," Montes said, "It is difficult to determine who will win or whether the results will go to a second round; it even seems complicated to make a prediction. A great mystery may emerge from this crisis environment."
