Attention property owners: Late payments will incur interest

Citizens who own houses, shops, plots, or fields have until tomorrow to make their first installment payments for the 2026 property tax. If the June 1, 2026, deadline is missed, taxpayers who have not made their payments will be charged a monthly late interest rate of 3.7%. The second installment payments will be collected in November.

A warning has been issued that municipal payment offices may be closed during the holiday period, which includes the Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayramı). Therefore, it is recommended that citizens prefer digital payment channels to avoid the risk of delay.

Payments can be made using bank or credit cards through municipalities' online collection portals, the e-Government (e-Devlet) system, and mobile or internet banking applications.

It is also known that, with successive regulations, property tax is increased once a year according to the revaluation rate.

Regarding property tax exemptions, certain criteria stand out. Retirees, those with no income, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and relatives of martyrs may be exempt from this tax. However, for the exemption, it is required to own only a single residence within the borders of Turkey and for this residence not to exceed a gross area of 200 square meters. Additionally, residences for which a building registration certificate has been obtained under the zoning amnesty can also be included in the exemption.

Those who wish to benefit from the tax exemption need to check whether they meet the relevant conditions and report the necessary applications to their municipalities.

Information regarding questions about property tax and technical details of payments can be accessed through the official websites of municipalities or via e-Government.
