Attention vehicle owners! A new era in traffic insurance begins on July 1

Important changes concerning vehicle owners in traffic accidents are on the horizon. With the new regulations, the damage status of vehicles will be determined according to expert reports, and these reports will be decisive in insurance processes.

According to the regulation that will come into effect as of July 1, 2025, if the damage to a vehicle does not exceed 60 percent of its market value, the vehicle will be repaired. For damages exceeding this rate, an expert assessment will be activated. While the distinction between total loss and heavy damage is being clarified, vehicles whose repair costs exceed their market value will be considered total losses, and compensation will be paid by the insurance company.

DAMAGE STATUS IN CRITICAL PARTS

In the event that certain critical parts are damaged, the vehicle will be considered a total loss even if the damage rate remains below 60 percent. These parts include important components such as the floor panel, rocker panels, chassis rails, roof panel, airbags, and electric vehicle batteries.

COMPENSATION PROCESS AND WITHDRAWAL CERTIFICATE

To initiate the compensation process for heavily damaged vehicles, a withdrawal certificate must be obtained from a notary. Once this document is submitted to the insurance company, payment procedures can be initiated.

SECOND-HAND VALUE OF DAMAGED VEHICLES

Vehicles with damage below 60 percent of their market value can undergo repairs as long as their critical parts are not damaged. However, significant drops in the second-hand value of these vehicles may occur. For example, if a vehicle with a market value of 1 million TL is offered for sale with a damage record of 550 thousand TL, its price is expected to drop by up to 50 percent.

IMPORTANCE OF CORPORATE SERVICES IN REPAIRS

It is recommended to prefer competent and corporate services for vehicle repairs. Poor-quality repairs can negatively affect vehicle safety and long-term usage quality. For this reason, vehicle owners are advised to avoid unauthorized, "under-the-counter" repair shops.
