August unemployment figures announced
According to data from TÜİK, the unemployment rate in August was 9.2 percent. The number of unemployed people fell to 3 million 223 thousand.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the unemployment figures for August.
The unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points in August, settling at 9.2 percent. The unemployment rate was determined to be 7.5 percent for men and 12.6 percent for women.
UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE YOUTH POPULATION IS 17.2 PERCENT
The unemployment rate for the youth population, covering the 15-24 age group, was 17.2 percent, a decrease of 0.7 percentage points compared to the previous month. In this age group, the unemployment rate was estimated at 14.2 percent for men and 22.7 percent for women.
The number of unemployed people aged 15 and over decreased by 56 thousand in August compared to the previous month, falling to 3 million 223 thousand.
EMPLOYMENT NEAR 31.7 MILLION
The number of employed people increased by 1 thousand in August compared to the previous month, reaching 31 million 686 thousand, while the employment rate remained unchanged at 48.4 percent. This rate was 65.6 percent for men and 31.5 percent for women.
The labor force decreased by 55 thousand in August compared to the previous month, totaling 34 million 909 thousand, while the labor force participation rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 53.3 percent. The labor force participation rate was 70.9 percent for men and 36 percent for women.
