Bad news for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees from Aziz Çelik! The risk of a zero raise...
Stating that SSK and Bağ-Kur pensions will be increased by the 6-month official inflation rate in January 2024 as per Law No. 5510, Prof. Dr. Aziz Çelik noted that this increase will be applied to the base pension, not to the 7,500 TL figure. Reminding that the lowest pension is currently topped up by the Treasury, Çelik said, "A legislative change is required to increase the top-up limit."
With the announcement of inflation data, the raise rate for civil servants and civil servant retirees was determined to be 49.25 percent.
The raise rate for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees remained at 37.57 percent. While millions of SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees are demanding that the gap be closed, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz provided information regarding the regulations to be made for pensions in his statement on the economic agenda.
Regarding the additional raise expected by millions of retirees, Yılmaz said, "We have not moved away from our principle of not letting retirees be crushed by inflation, and we are making every effort," and stated that they would evaluate the beginning of the year and July together in the regulation to be made.
Evaluating the 25 percent rent increase cap, Yılmaz gave the message that it would not be needed once inflation falls, while noting that there is no work underway for a gradual retirement plan.
Evaluating these words of Yılmaz on his social media account, labor life expert Prof. Dr. Aziz Çelik said, "Meaning: There will not be an increase of around 50 percent in worker and Bağ-Kur pensions."
LISTED 8 POINTS
Prior to these posts on his X account, Prof. Dr. Çelik made another post titled "What is happening with pensions?" and listed the following points:
"1- Worker and Bağ-Kur pensions will be increased by the 6-month official inflation rate (37.6%) in January 2024 as per Law No. 5510.
2- This increase is not on top of the 7,500 TL (the topped-up pension). It will be applied to the retirees' own base pensions.
3- The lowest pension is still being topped up to 7,500 TL by the Treasury. A legislative change is required to increase the top-up limit.
"THOSE WITH A BASE PENSION BELOW 5,450 TL WILL RECEIVE A ZERO RAISE"
4- Since the top-up limit has not yet been increased by law, retirees and beneficiaries with a base pension of 5,450 TL and below will receive a zero raise in January 2024.
5- Retirees with a base pension of 6,000 TL will receive 8,256 TL (10 percent)
Those with a base pension of 6,500 TL will receive 8,944 TL (19.2 percent)
Those with a base pension of 7,000 TL will receive 9,632 TL (28.4 percent)
6- On the other hand, a legislative change is also required for pensions to be increased by more than the 6-month official inflation rate.
WILL THE CHANGE BE READY THIS MONTH?
7- How the legislative change will be made, where the top-up amount (the lowest pension) will be set, and what the rates of increase will be are not yet clear!
8- Parliament will open on January 16. Pension payments begin on January 17. It is not possible for the change to be ready this month!
What is certain is that pensions will continue to remain at a level of misery in January 2024!"
