BİSAM: Poverty line is over 40 thousand liras

According to BİSAM data, the daily cost of nutrition exceeded 400 liras in August. The poverty line reached a new record level, increasing by exactly 1,740 TL in a single month.

BİSAM: Poverty line is over 40 thousand liras

The United Metal Workers' Union Class Research Center (BİSAM) has announced the hunger and poverty line data for the August 2023 period.

Accordingly, the hunger line, which constitutes the monthly kitchen expenses of a family of four, rose to 12,034 TL in August, while the poverty line, which covers all monthly expenses including rent, bills, transportation, education, health, and clothing, rose to 41,626 TL.

This means that within one month, the hunger line increased by 509 TL, and the poverty line increased by exactly 1,740 TL.

BİSAM had announced that in July, the hunger line was 11,525 TL and the poverty line was 39,886 TL.

DAILY NUTRITION COST EXCEEDED 400 TL

The level reached by the hunger line revealed that the daily cost of nutrition has also exceeded 400 liras.

According to BİSAM data, the monthly cost of food that an adult male needs to consume for a healthy and balanced diet stood out as 2,385 liras.

This value was 2,276 TL for an adult woman, 2,471 TL for a teenager aged 15-18, and 1,651 TL for a child aged 4-6.

HIGHEST COST GROUP IS MILK AND DAIRY PRODUCTS

In daily expenditures, the highest cost group in August 2023 was milk and dairy products, with a requirement of 130.25 liras.

This was followed by the minimum amount that needs to be spent for the meat, chicken, and fish group, with a daily requirement of 79.28 TL.

The daily expenditure amount required for vegetables and fruits reached 84.33 liras.

While the expenditure amount required for bread was 33.38 liras per day, it was stated that 23.42 liras needed to be spent for solid and liquid fats, 8.13 liras for eggs, and 10.59 liras for sugar, honey, jam, and molasses.
