Borsa Istanbul and foreign exchange rise while gold loses value
While indices at Borsa Istanbul rose this week, the dollar and euro also gained value. Gold, however, caused losses for its investors.
The BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul closed the week with a 2.19 percent increase at 9,404.89 points. Throughout the week, the index saw a low of 9,077.80 and a high of 9,484 points. The technology index rose by 0.47 percent to 20,468.29 points, and the services index increased by 2.26 percent to reach 9,539.97 points. While the financial index rose by 5.45 percent to 12,067.17 points, the industrial index fell by 0.17 percent to remain at 11,971.84 points.
Among the most valuable companies traded on Borsa Istanbul, Aselsan ranked first with 668 billion 40 million liras. It was followed by Garanti BBVA with 515 billion 760 million liras and Enka Insaat ve Sanayi with 377 billion 100 million liras.
INCREASE IN FOREIGN EXCHANGE RATES
In the foreign exchange market, the selling price of the dollar rose by 0.55 percent to 39.8870 liras, while the selling price of the euro increased by 2.37 percent to 46.8290 liras. The British pound rose by 2.24 percent to 54.7700 liras, and the Swiss franc was traded at 49.9700 liras with a 2.82 percent increase.
In the gold market, the gram price of 24-karat bullion gold fell by 2.26 percent to 4,199 liras, while the Republic gold lost 2.24 percent in value, dropping to 28,383 liras.
