Borsa Istanbul declines at midday, global markets remain positive
The BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul fell by 0.1 percent to 9,481.33 points at midday.
The BIST 100 index showed a downward trend in the first half of the day, falling 9.57 points from the previous close to 9,481.33 points as of 1:00 PM. The total trading volume reached 35.2 billion liras. While the banking index lost 1.05 percent in value, the holding index rose by 0.75 percent. Among the sectors, financial leasing and factoring was the top gainer with a 6.25 percent increase, while the banking sector was the biggest loser.
In global markets, a positive atmosphere prevails thanks to optimistic expectations regarding US-China trade talks and strong technology earnings reports. Analysts note that with the intensification of the earnings season, stock and sector-based movements may increase both domestically and internationally.
For the remainder of the day, the summary of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey's Monetary Policy Committee meeting, sectoral inflation expectations, and weekly money and banking statistics will be monitored domestically. Additionally, the assessment of Turkey by the international credit rating agency Standard & Poor's is awaited. Abroad, the University of Michigan consumer sentiment index in the US will be tracked. From a technical perspective, the 9,400 and 9,300 levels stand out as support points for the BIST 100 index, while 9,550 and 9,650 points serve as resistance levels.
