Although expectations regarding the dates when central banks worldwide will begin interest rate cuts are being pushed back day by day, a generally positive outlook prevails in equity markets.

While indices on the New York Stock Exchange continue to test all-time highs led by technology stocks, interest in emerging market equities is also increasing.

According to Bank of America data, 20.8 billion dollars in cash flowed into emerging market equities last week. This amount marks the highest weekly inflow of funds into emerging market equities of all time.

MONEY IS FLOWING INTO EMERGING MARKETS

Analysts noted that Turkey has benefited significantly from these developments, stating that interest in Turkish lira assets in global markets is steadily increasing and that this situation is impacting the performance of these assets.

When examining the weekly securities statistics data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB), it is observed that non-residents have purchased 498.4 million dollars in net stocks and 319 million dollars in Government Domestic Debt Securities (DİBS) over the last 4 weeks.

Emphasizing that positive reports from foreign investment institutions regarding Turkish assets continue, analysts stated that the steps taken by the economic administration during the normalization process that began after last year's elections have fueled risk appetite for Turkish lira assets.

With these developments, the BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul has outperformed major global indices with a return of 21.1 percent since the beginning of the year, while its closest follower, the Nikkei 225 index in Japan, rose by 10.3 percent.

DOLLAR-BASED RISE CONTINUED IN THE STOCK MARKET

The BIST 100 index reached 294.5 points on a dollar basis, testing its highest level since October 16.

While the BIST 100 index achieved its all-time highest daily and weekly close on Friday by reaching 9,045.97 points, when viewed on a dollar basis, the index reached 294.5 points with a 16.2 percent increase, testing its highest level since October 16.

This year, an average daily trading volume of 97.9 billion liras was generated in the BIST 100 index. The index reached its highest trading volume on February 7 with 133.6 billion liras.

When sector indices are examined in detail, it is noteworthy that all sectors have gained since the beginning of 2024, with the informatics sector taking the lead at 56.6 percent. It was followed by tourism with 35.5 percent and electricity with 29.7 percent. The banking index gained 12.5 percent and the holding index gained 27.1 percent during this period.

On a stock basis, it was noted that 97 of the stocks included in the BIST 100 index have gained value since the beginning of the year, while 3 have declined.

COMPANIES THAT PLEASED THEIR INVESTORS

The stocks of the top three companies that pleased their investors the most this year were Vestel Elektronik with a 76.5 percent increase, Akfen Yenilenebilir Enerji with a 66.4 percent gain, and SDT Uzay ve Savunma with a 56 percent rise, respectively.

In this process, the three stocks included in the BIST 100 index that declined were determined to be Qua Granite with a 25.4 percent decrease, Hektaş with a 9.2 percent loss, and Aksa Akrilik with a 4.5 percent drop, respectively.

On the other hand, according to data announced by the Central Securities Depository (MKK), the number of investors with stock balances reached 7.2 million as of February 9, while the stock market value also hit a record, rising to 11.9 trillion Turkish liras.

When examining the Risk Appetite Index (REKS) created by the MKK to measure risk appetite, it was found that as of February 2, the risk appetite of foreign investors was at 64.3 and the risk appetite of domestic investors was at 63.1, while the risk appetite of all investors was 56.3.

A REKS level above 50 indicates high risk appetite, while levels below this are interpreted as low risk appetite.
