British tourist rebels against prices in Turkey! 'This must be a joke'

A woman named "Emzie," who came to Turkey for a holiday, was shocked when she saw the price of a menu she bought from a burger chain at Antalya Airport. Emzie shared her astonishment at the amount she paid for an ordinary menu on TikTok, and The Mirror newspaper's Katie-Ann Gupwell reported on it.

Emzie said she could not believe that 20 euros (approximately 915 TL) was requested at the register after she bought a menu from a fast-food burger chain at Antalya Airport. The tourist expressed her surprise by saying, "What can I say? The prices at Antalya Airport are truly crazy. An ordinary Big Mac menu is 20 euros."

Emzie and her companions ordered two triple cheeseburgers, a medium Coca-Cola, and a medium Fanta. The total bill came to 37 pounds, or approximately 2,000 TL. Emzie stated that what they ate for this price had "no extra features."

Emzie's TikTok video received hundreds of comments in a short time. Those who had recently traveled to Turkey shared their own experiences one by one. One user said, "We paid 94 pounds," while another said, "I spent 85 euros for myself and my two children." In another comment, the phrase "These prices are sickening" was used.

THEY QUESTIONED THE HIGH COST OF LIVING IN TURKEY

The Mirror questioned the high cost of living in Turkey with the following statements while reporting the news:

"Why has Turkey become so expensive? Rising prices are on the agenda not only for foreign tourists but also for Turkish citizens. The rapid rise in inflation in Turkey recently has triggered price increases, especially in the food and service sectors.

According to the data analysis platform Statista, the continuous increase in producer price indices since 2022 has caused serious price hikes in consumer goods and services. In the same year, the 'food and non-alcoholic beverages' category reached the highest inflation rates. These items accounted for the highest share of household spending in Turkey in 2023."
