China's 'sanctions' reaction to the US: A typical example of economic bullying
China has reacted to the inclusion of 17 Chinese companies in the sanctions imposed by the US on Russia due to the war in Ukraine.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that Washington is using its jurisdiction extraterritorially through unilateral sanctions, arguing that the decision is a "typical example of economic bullying."
CHINA'S PERSPECTIVE ON THE UKRAINE-RUSSIA WAR
The statement noted that China will take necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of its companies.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning also stated at a press conference in Beijing that China maintains an objective and impartial stance on the Ukraine crisis and is working to promote peace talks and play a constructive role in a political solution.
Emphasizing that normal trade and economic cooperation between China and Russia neither targets third parties nor should be subject to interference by third parties, the spokesperson noted that they are opposed to the imposition of illegal sanctions on Chinese companies for this reason.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Ahead of the second anniversary of the start of the Russia-Ukraine War, the US added 9 Chinese companies to its sanctions list on February 23 on the grounds that they were trading products that could provide military support to Russia in the Ukraine War, and imposed export restrictions on 8 other Chinese companies.
