CHP Chairman Özgür Özel makes statement on minimum wage

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel attended a program held at the Bilecik Train Station to mark the 104th anniversary of Atatürk's arrival in Bilecik and the Bilecik Interview. Following the program, Özel addressed the public. Making statements regarding the minimum wage, Özel said, "Our minimum wage demand is 30, and we will not accept anything below this."

Özel stated the following:

"Tradespeople do not have the capacity to pay a minimum wage of 30,000 lira. The minimum wage is low for the person receiving it and high for the person paying it. The CHP has submitted a legislative proposal. We propose providing 6,000 lira in social security premium support per minimum wage employee to those who employ between 1 and 10 minimum wage workers. When it becomes 30 for the recipient, it will be 24,000 lira for the payer. This is the way to make the minimum wage 30,000 lira without hurting the tradespeople. In 2002, retirees were receiving one and a half times the minimum wage. If Mr. Tayyip had not engaged in unnecessary actions after saying 'I will not let you be crushed by inflation, I will give you a raise at the rate of inflation,' the lowest pension today would be 25,500 lira. He engaged in other matters and condemned you to a pension of 12,500 lira."
