CHP's Öztürk: "Markets are multiplying prices under the pretext of inflation"

Speaking at a press conference in Parliament, Öztürk said that Turkey is entering a deeper inflationary vortex with each passing day.

Stating that the dollar was around 18 liras last year, Öztürk said, "Today, despite being suppressed, the dollar has exceeded 30 liras. Economists state that the dollar should be in the 40-lira band. The markets and bazaars have turned into a scene of fire."

Pointing out that prices have increased along with the rise of the dollar, Öztürk noted that the raises given to the minimum wage as if they were a favor melt away before they even enter the citizens' pockets.

Touching upon the impact of those who manipulate the market on rising prices, Öztürk assessed, "Markets are multiplying prices under the pretext of inflation. Price tags are no longer changing monthly or weekly, but almost daily. Everything we buy today is more expensive than yesterday and cheaper than tomorrow. The price of an ordinary apartment starts at figures over a million."

Pointing out that some malicious sellers are taking advantage of this state of the economy to sell a 3-lira product for 13 liras, Öztürk expressed that the market is not being inspected sufficiently.

Criticizing the AKP government, Öztürk said, "The AK Party has failed in the economy. Staying in power for years has caused our economy to lose; it has not been able to gain anything. The AKP government, which has been managing this country for years, has unfortunately failed to become a power in the economy."
