CHP's Pala proposes indexing pensions to the minimum wage

Speaking at a press conference in Parliament, Pala stated that the minimum wage has become the average wage in Turkey, and that more than half of those who live by their labor are forced to survive on either the minimum wage or a salary very close to it.

Expressing that this situation has brought another demographic transformation to the agenda in Turkey, Pala noted that young adults who cannot afford to live alone in a house with the money they earn are forced to return to their parents' homes years later.

"IT MUST BE BROUGHT TO A LIVABLE WAGE LEVEL"

Stating that the minimum wage has ceased to be a wage that one can live on, Pala voiced his demands regarding the minimum wage and pensions. Pala said, "The minimum wage must be brought to a livable wage level. The lowest wage should never be below the hunger threshold. It is necessary to ensure that the lowest level of pensions is indexed to the minimum wage."

Pala emphasized that in order to stop the minimum wage from being the average wage, the concept of limiting the duration of employment at the minimum wage for workers must be brought to the agenda.
