The decline in the BIST 100 index on Borsa Istanbul reached 5 percent, and a circuit breaker was triggered.

It was reported that trading will resume at 17:19. The BIST 100 index, which started the day with gains, had completed the first half of the day with a loss of 1.06 percent at 7,905.37 points.

ERDOĞAN'S STATEMENTS DRAW REACTION

Market volatility occurred following President Erdoğan's statements regarding Israel.

Speaking at the AKP group meeting, Erdoğan's characterization of Hamas not as a "terrorist organization" but as a "liberation and mujahideen group" sparked reactions.

Erdoğan had used the following expressions:

"In their latest meeting, they came together and the entire West views Hamas as a terrorist organization. Israel, you might be an organization because the West owes you a lot, but Turkey does not owe you anything. Hamas is not a terrorist organization; it is a liberation and mujahideen group struggling to protect its land."

ŞİMŞEK'S STATEMENT ON FOREIGN INVESTORS

At the same time, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek's remarks regarding foreign capital, "Foreign investments will return, but it will take time," were interpreted as a sign that hot money could not be found.
