Citizens turn to credit again: Banking sector loan volume rose last week
The banking sector's loan volume increased by 72 billion 708 million liras last week, reaching 10 trillion 751 billion 390 million liras.
According to the weekly bulletin published by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), the sector's loan volume increased by 72 billion 708 million liras as of October 13.
During the period in question, the total loan volume rose from 10 trillion 678 billion 681 million liras to 10 trillion 751 billion 390 million liras.
Total deposits in the banking sector, including interbank deposits, increased by 282 billion 87 million liras last week. The total deposits of the banking sector, which rose by 2.1 percent in the week in question, reached 13 trillion 623 billion 941 million liras.
INCREASE IN CONSUMER LOANS
According to the bulletin, the amount of consumer loans rose by 8 billion 956 million liras to 1 trillion 453 billion 147 million liras as of October 13. Of these loans, 445 billion 101 million liras consisted of housing loans, 87 billion 979 million liras of vehicle loans, and 920 billion 66 million liras of personal finance loans.
During this period, the amount of installment commercial loans increased by 3 billion 387 million liras to 1 trillion 246 billion 185 million liras. Banks' individual credit card receivables rose by 1.7 percent to 977 billion 590 million liras. Of the individual credit card receivables, 428 billion 108 million liras consisted of installment debt, and 549 billion 482 million liras consisted of non-installment debt.
Non-performing loans in the banking sector increased by 342 million liras compared to the previous week as of October 13, reaching 169 billion 49 million liras. Specific provisions were set aside for 144 billion 513 million liras of these non-performing loans.
In the same period, the legal equity of the banking system increased by 25 billion 156 million liras to 2 trillion 330 billion 234 million liras.
