Conditions for electricity subsidies have changed: No aid if the limit is exceeded

A new era has begun for electricity bills. From now on, government support will not be provided to all subscribers at a fixed rate, but will be offered gradually based on monthly consumption levels. Those who exceed the set limit will cover their entire bill with their own means, while those who remain below the limit will continue to benefit from the support.

UPPER LIMIT FOR RESIDENCES: 417 KWH PER MONTH

According to the new implementation, if the monthly electricity usage of residential subscribers remains below 417 kilowatt-hours, government support will continue. However, subscribers who exceed this threshold will be excluded from the scope of support. While the average monthly consumption of a household is around 200 kWh, a consumption of 417 kWh corresponds to a bill of approximately 1,047 TL. Those above this level will cover the entire cost of electricity from their own budgets.

ANNUAL LIMIT OF 15,000 KWH FOR COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL PREMISES

A similar regulation has been put into effect for businesses. If the annual electricity consumption of commercial and industrial subscribers exceeds 15,000 kilowatt-hours, there will be increases of up to 11 percent in their bills. Considering the Market Clearing Price (PTF), it is warned that this increase rate could reach up to 93 percent in non-subsidized tariffs.

WHO WILL BE ABLE TO RECEIVE SUPPORT?

According to the report by Habertürk, residential subscribers whose total electricity usage in 2024 remains below 5,000 kWh will continue to benefit from the existing support. For consumption below a daily average of 8 kWh, the support rate will be applied at 60 percent, and for consumption above this limit, it will be applied at 40 percent.

THOSE WHO REDUCE CONSUMPTION WILL BE ABLE TO RECEIVE SUPPORT AGAIN

The new system also covers subscribers who change their consumption habits. Citizens who reduce their consumption below the limit will gain the right to benefit from the subsidized tariff again the following year.
