Consumer arbitration committees resolve 817 million TL in disputes

In the January-October period, the number of applications to the 37 consumer arbitration committees operating in Istanbul reached 159,323, while the financial value of the processed files was recorded at 816 million 706 thousand liras.

Consumer arbitration committees resolve 817 million TL in disputes

In a statement made by the Ministry of Trade, information was provided regarding the activities of consumer arbitration committees in Istanbul.

Accordingly, a total of 159,323 applications were made to the 37 consumer arbitration committees operating in the city during the January-October period. Of the evaluated applications, 65,565 were decided in favor of the consumer.

The total financial value of the files processed in Istanbul during this period was calculated at 816 million 705 thousand 581 liras. On the Anatolian side, the highest number of applications came from Ümraniye with 8,819, while on the European side, it came from Küçükçekmece with 6,631.

RETAIL TRADE SECTOR HAS THE MOST APPLICATIONS

When looking at the sectoral distribution of applications made in Istanbul, it was observed that the retail sector ranked first with 53.72 percent in the 10-month period. This sector ranked first with 85,595 applications.

Retail trade was followed by other applications where the sector was not specified and those made electronically, the other services sector, subscriptions, financial services, transportation-health-education, and tourism service sectors.

The Istanbul Provincial Consumer Arbitration Committee was the location that received the highest number of applications across Turkey during this period, with 15,671 applications.

5.4 MILLION LIRAS IN FINES IN 1 MONTH DURING INSPECTIONS

On the other hand, inspections were carried out by the teams of the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Trade between October 14 and November 13 in many businesses, primarily national markets, bread bakeries, wholesale markets and marketplaces, auto galleries, shopping malls, and restaurants.

In these inspections, 17,875 products and services were examined, including price tags, price differences between the shelf and the register, unfair price increases, weights and packaging, hoarding, product labels, authorization certificates, and electronic messages.

As a result of the inspections, violations of the law were detected in 2,018 products, and administrative fines totaling 5 million 414 thousand 988 liras were imposed.
