Cost of living in Istanbul rises by 49 percent
The cost of living for a family of four in Istanbul has increased by 49 percent in one year, reaching 91,722 TL.
According to data from the Istanbul Planning Agency (İPA), the cost of living for a family of four in Istanbul has increased by 49.09 percent compared to the same period last year. In May, this cost was calculated at 91,722 TL, marking an increase of 1,690 TL compared to the previous month.
While the cost of living for the same family was 90,032 TL last April, this figure rose to 91,722 TL in May. This indicates that the cost of living in Istanbul increased by 1.88 percent in just one month.
İPA considers the prices of a basket containing 321 items across 10 main categories, such as food, housing, transportation, and health, when determining the cost of living. This comprehensive research is supported by a data collection process conducted with 1,600 households.
