Data released: 85 out of every 100 workers in Turkey are non-unionized

According to data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, it has been announced that only 14.80 percent of the 16 million 973 thousand 61 workers are union members.

Data released: 85 out of every 100 workers in Turkey are non-unionized

Data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security regarding the number of workers in various sectors and the number of union members for July 2024, in accordance with the Law on Trade Unions and Collective Labor Agreements, has been published in the Official Gazette.

The obtained data includes information on the number of employees in various sectors and the number of unionized members as of July.

According to the released data, it was determined that 2 million 512 thousand 33 workers, corresponding to 14.80 percent of the 16 million 973 thousand 61 workers, are union members. 

It was stated that 85 percent of workers are not members of any union. 

According to the statistics, the number of unionized workers, which was 2 million 495 thousand 423 in January, increased by 16 thousand 610, while the rate of union membership decreased by 0.42 percent compared to the total number.

In terms of membership numbers, Turkey's largest union was Türk Metal with 295 thousand 192 members. It was followed by Hizmet İş with 275 thousand 317 members and Öz Sağlık İş with 211 thousand 657 members.
