Date for the first meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission has been set

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz met with journalists in Ankara. Yılmaz announced that the Minimum Wage Determination Commission will begin its work on December 1, as required by legislation.

"LET US SEE WHAT THE PARTIES HAVE TO SAY"

Yılmaz stated the following: "This year, the minimum wage was increased by 114 percent. The minimum wage increase was well above inflation. On top of that, a tax exemption was introduced for wages up to the minimum wage level. The cost of this to the budget was 500 billion liras.

When determining the minimum wage, negotiations are carried out through a tripartite mechanism. The perspective of the public sector alone is not enough to determine the raise. There are also worker and employer parties. It would not be correct to state a perspective without the social dialogue mechanism being carried out. Employers will also be at the table with approaches such as the continuity of businesses and the prevention of informality. Let us see what the parties have to say."

"IT IS NECESSARY TO BALANCE THAT AREA"

Yılmaz also touched upon the January raise for pensions. Yılmaz said the following:

"There have been significant real increases in pensions. However, recent inflation has also created a debate regarding pensions. What the civil servant raise will be at the end of the year is determined by the collective bargaining agreement. The civil servant raise will also be reflected in civil servant pensions. Worker retirees normally receive a little less. There is a situation where it seems necessary to balance that area. We will do our best by pushing the budget possibilities for salaries below 7,500 liras. But while doing this, we must not forget the earthquake, and we must not forget the fight against inflation."

'WE MUST USE OUR RESOURCES BY OBSERVING BALANCE'

Evaluating wage increases, Yılmaz stated, "The fight against inflation also requires social sacrifice. Creating perceptions detached from reality on social media or other channels does not bring permanent prosperity growth. Balance is very important. If a raise is given to a certain segment and not to others, the balance is disrupted. We must ensure justice and use our resources by observing balance."
