Date set for minimum wage hike

Millions of citizens in Turkey are eagerly awaiting the third meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, where the employee and employer sides will state their minimum wage proposals for the first time.

According to the report by Hazal Ateş from Sabah; the estimate for the minimum wage is between 16 thousand liras and 17 thousand liras, and with the new minimum wage figure, amounts will also be determined for areas such as unemployment benefits, severance pay, GSS (General Health Insurance) premiums, military service and birth debt borrowing, optional insurance premiums, internship wages, and report wages for minimum wage earners.

PROPOSALS WILL BE PRESENTED

While the last meeting for the minimum wage was held on December 18, it is estimated that the third meeting will take place this week.

At the third meeting, the employer and employee sides will present their minimum wage proposals for the first time, taking into account the reports to be presented by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) and the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.

If a 35 percent raise is applied to the minimum wage, it will rise to 15 thousand 392 TL, and if a 50 percent raise is applied, it will rise to 17 thousand 103 liras.

The annual severance pay of a salaried employee will also be determined based on the announced raise rate.

Regulations will be made in many items, from unemployment benefits to general health insurance premiums, and from severance pay to internship wages, along with the minimum wage.

UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT IS RISING

When the insured's earnings subject to premiums for the last 4 months are examined, there will also be an increase in unemployment benefits in the new year.

When the lower limit of the unemployment benefit is considered as 40 percent of the minimum wage and the upper limit as 80 percent of the minimum wage, the unemployment benefit will also rise with the new minimum wage.

While a minimum wage employee earns severance pay in the amount of the gross minimum wage as a result of one year of work, the employee's annual severance pay will also reflect the raise rate with the new minimum wage.

The internship wage paid to high school and university students doing internships will also increase with the new minimum wage. The new minimum wage increase will also concern GSS premiums.

BONUS FOR WORKING RETIREES TO BE TRANSFERRED TO ACCOUNTS ON DECEMBER 29

The negotiations for the Omnibus Bill, which includes the provision of a 5 thousand lira bonus to working retirees, will continue after the budget work in the General Assembly is completed.

It is foreseen that the proposal will be enacted before the new year begins and that bonus payments will be made to working retirees.
