Decision affecting millions in second-hand vehicle trading: Ministry extends the deadline
The Ministry of Trade has extended the "6-month, 6,000-kilometer" rule and the advertisement restriction applied in the second-hand automobile market for another 6 months. While the regulations will remain in effect until January 1, 2027, the practice of notaries blocking sales that violate these rules will also continue.
The regulations regarding the "6-month, 6,000-kilometer" rule and the advertisement restriction applied in the second-hand automobile market have been extended until the end of the year. The Ministry of Trade announced that these practices will continue until January 1, 2027.
In the statement made by the Ministry, it was reported that the duration of the measures currently in force to protect consumers in the second-hand vehicle market, prevent speculative price movements, and ensure market balance has been extended for another 6 months.
REGULATIONS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR
Accordingly, the "6-month, 6,000-kilometer" practice and the advertisement restriction will remain valid until January 1, 2027. This aims to prevent new vehicles from being introduced to the second-hand market at high prices in a short period of time.
NOTARIES WILL CONTINUE TO BLOCK NON-COMPLIANT SALES
The Ministry stated that, in addition to businesses holding a second-hand motor vehicle trade authorization certificate, the transactions of individuals and legal entities that sell three or more second-hand vehicles in a calendar year without an authorization certificate will continue to be blocked by notaries if they violate the regulations.
NEARLY 170 MILLION LIRA IN FINES IMPOSED
The statement emphasized that efforts to protect a fair and stable market structure in the automotive sector are ongoing, and included the following remarks:
"As the Ministry of Trade, we are determinedly continuing our efforts to establish a fair, competitive, and stable market structure in the automotive sector, prevent speculative price formations, combat stockpiling activities, and protect our consumers.
As a result of the inspections carried out by our Ministry of Trade, a total of 54 million Turkish Lira in administrative fines has been imposed on authorized automobile dealers and auto gallery businesses that acted in violation of the 6-Month 6,000-Kilometer Regulation to date, and approximately 116 million Turkish Lira in administrative fines has been imposed on individuals and businesses that violated the advertisement restriction.
In this direction, the durations of the 6-Month 6,000-Kilometer Regulation and the Advertisement Restriction practices have been extended by our Ministry of Trade for another 6 months and will remain in effect until January 1, 2027.
Furthermore, in addition to businesses holding a second-hand motor vehicle trade authorization certificate, sales that violate the regulation by individuals and legal entities that sell three or more second-hand motor vehicles in a calendar year without an authorization certificate will continue to be blocked by notaries."
