Deposit interest rates hit seven-month high
CBRT data shows that 1-3 month Turkish Lira deposit interest rates have reached their highest level in seven months at 40.6 percent, with significant increases also seen in consumer and commercial loan interest rates.
A rising trend in interest rates is once again coming to the fore in Turkey's financial markets. The latest data released by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) shows that as of April, 1-3 month TL deposit interest rates reached an average of 40.6 percent, hitting their highest level in the last seven months. This increase is leading to a revival of interest in deposits among savers.
For those looking to take out loans, costs continue to rise. In particular, the rise in interest rates on consumer loans to 50.1 percent has increased the debt burden on citizens. Interest rates on commercial loans have also reached one of their highest levels in recent times, climbing to 40.9 percent.

While there have been periodic fluctuations in interest rates from the beginning of 2025 to April 10, 2026, it is notable that sharp increases have occurred on both the loan and deposit sides in the recent period. While the tightening in monetary policy causes loan costs to remain high in the banking sector, these developments are leading to deposits coming to the forefront in investment preferences.
Experts emphasize that liquidity conditions in the markets and central bank policies should be closely monitored in the coming period, noting that the course of interest rates will continue to directly affect economic activity.
