Driver's license renewal continues: What is the penalty for not renewing?

Renewals for ID cards and driver's licenses are ongoing. You can renew your ID cards and driver's licenses by making an appointment and visiting the civil registration offices.

According to a report by Hürriyet, there is no deadline for changing ID cards. However, there are 11 months left for driver's license renewals. 

STEPS FOR LICENSE RENEWAL

To change your driver's license, you must obtain a medical report, pay the required fees, and then make an appointment with the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs. 

During the period when your license is being renewed, you can use the document provided to drive for a period of 1 month. 

VALIDITY PERIOD OF RENEWED LICENSES

The validity period for renewed driver's licenses is set at 10 years. However, for certain license classes, it has been set at 5 years.

PENALTY FOR USING AN OLD LICENSE

In accordance with Article 39/3 of the Highway Traffic Law, an administrative fine will be imposed on those who drive with old-type driver's licenses that have lost their validity.

Driving without a license is subject to a fine of 12,978 TL, driving while one's license is suspended is 12,978 TL, driving while one's license is revoked is 12,978 TL, driving a vehicle outside of one's license class is 6,440 TL, driving with an expired license is 2,610 TL, and driving with licenses from other countries without complying with the time and limits restricted by regulation is subject to a fine of 2,610 TL.
