Economist Mahfi Eğilmez shares: What do Turkey's credit ratings mean?

S&P Ratings has maintained Turkey's credit rating at B while upgrading its outlook from stable to positive.

Economist Mahfi Eğilmez shared his assessment of the development via his X account. Eğilmez stated, "If the positive change that began with the rationalization steps taken regarding interest rates and the KKM (FX-protected deposit scheme) continues, capital inflows into the country may begin."

In another message, Mahfi Eğilmez shared a table containing the credit ratings of Turkey from the three major credit rating agencies (S&P, Moody's, and Fitch). The table included information on what the credit ratings mean and which investment category they correspond to.

Accordingly, S&P's B+ rating signifies a 'Highly Speculative' level, while falling into the 'Low Level' investment category. S&P's rating is just below the 'Investment Threshold.'

Moody's B3 rating similarly remains at a 'Highly Speculative' level and corresponds to a 'Low Level' in terms of investment.

Fitch's rating for Turkey, announced as B, also corresponds to a 'Highly Speculative' level and falls within the 'Low Level' investment category.
