Economist Selçuk Geçer issued a warning on Halk TV: "A foreign exchange shock is inevitable after the election. Tourism professionals and exporters are pricing the rate at 50 liras."
As the effects of the rising foreign exchange rate and the cost of living caused by inflation in Turkey increase day by day, a concerning statement has come from economist Selçuk Geçer, who frequently makes headlines with his predictions regarding the dollar.
Speaking on Halk TV's "Halkın Haberi Özel" program hosted by Ekrem Açıkel, Geçer warned about the exchange rate, stating, "It is very dangerous to keep the US Dollar at 31 TL right now. The real exchange rate is at 45-50 TL."
Explaining that this approach could lead to major problems, Geçer stated that a foreign exchange shock after the election is inevitable.
Stating that tourism professionals and exporters are pricing the exchange rate at 50 liras, Selçuk Geçer continued his remarks as follows:
"If we calculate inflation, the dollar should be at 50 TL right now. When we bring it from the last two years, the dollar is already at 50 TL. I am telling you the real value of the dollar; this is the real, necessary value. People ask me, 'When will the dollar be 45, when will it be 50?' It is already 50; the fact that you are keeping the foreign currency at 31 TL does not mean that the currency is not 50 TL."
