Economy and budget negotiations gain momentum in Parliament
Parliament faces a busy agenda regarding economic and budget issues in the new legislative year.
Parliament has made a fast start to the new legislative year and will continue with an intense, economy-focused agenda this week. The 2026 budget will be presented to the TBMM Planning and Budget Committee by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz on October 23. This budget is projected at 18.9 trillion lira, a 29 percent increase within the framework of the Medium-Term Program covering the years 2025-2028. The budget deficit is expected to be 2.7 trillion lira.
The budget, which will be discussed in the Planning and Budget Committee in November, will be addressed in the General Assembly in December and enacted before the start of the fiscal year.
Work on the economic package is also continuing rapidly. The AKP Parliamentary Group will work this week to finalize the economic package.
Regulations prepared by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance as part of the fight against the informal economy form an important part of this package. The package, which is expected to include steps such as the removal of ineffective tax exemptions and deductions, as well as the reduction of premium support provided to employers, will be passed by the Planning and Budget Committee and enacted before the 2026 budget negotiations begin.
The legislative proposal regarding amendments to the Highway Traffic Law, which was not included in the General Assembly agenda last week, is planned to be discussed this week. Additionally, two legislative proposals containing regulations related to national parks, tourism, and foundations will be addressed in committees in the coming days. The National Parks Law proposal will be discussed in the Agriculture, Forestry and Village Affairs Committee, while the amendment to the Foundations Law will be discussed in the Public Works, Reconstruction, Transportation and Tourism Committee.
