EMRA announces residential, industrial, and agricultural electricity tariffs following price hike
Consumers will face significant increases in their electricity and natural gas bills starting in April. While electricity tariffs have been raised by 25 percent, a 'tiered tariff' system for natural gas has resulted in price increases of up to 132 percent for high-consumption users.
Energy regulations that will affect the bills of millions of subscribers across Turkey have come into effect. Following the 25 percent increase in electricity, a notable price hike has also been implemented for natural gas, specifically targeting high-consumption subscribers.
ELECTRICITY TARIFFS UPDATED
According to the statement by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA), price increases have been applied to all subscriber groups, citing rising costs.
According to the new tariff:
The increase rate for residential subscribers is 25 percent.
A 24.8 percent hike has been applied to agricultural activities.
The increase for the public and private services group has been set at 17.5 percent.
A 5.8 percent increase has been applied to medium-voltage industrial subscribers.
With this regulation, the amount to be paid by a household consuming 100 kWh of electricity per month has risen to 323.8 TL.
TIERED TARIFF SYSTEM IN NATURAL GAS
With the new system announced by BOTAŞ, a two-tier pricing model has been introduced for natural gas. Accordingly, usage amounts exceeding 75 percent of the average consumption of provinces will be charged at a higher tariff.
For residential subscribers:
A 37 percent increase for the first tier,
A 132 percent increase for the second tier has been implemented.
While the natural gas price for industrial facilities and power generation plants has been raised by 20 percent, no changes have been made to the tariff applied to bread producers.
