Erdoğan evaluates the national economy on the plane: Touches on public spending

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered journalists' questions while returning from Iraq. 

Addressing the national economy in response to questions, Erdoğan pointed to austerity and made statements regarding public spending. Erdoğan said, "Our priority, our primary goal, is to implement austerity in public spending, reduce inflation, and ease the economy. We have succeeded before, and we will succeed again." 

"CONCRETE STEPS IN A SHORT TIME..."

In response to a question regarding the scope of austerity measures in the public sector, Erdoğan gave the following answer:

"Austerity in the public sector should be understood as the elimination of unnecessary expenditures and the effective and efficient use of public resources. Nothing else should be understood from this. We are currently working on revising budgets accordingly.

Our Ministry of Treasury and Finance will monitor austerity steps; all expenditures, from the use of official vehicles to communication expenses, representation, ceremonies, hospitality services, and the purchase of fixtures, will be reviewed. Real needs will be identified, and non-essential spending will be cut off. We have to take austerity measures to increase the welfare of our nation. As a government, we are absolutely determined to do whatever is necessary for this. Our priority and primary goal is to implement austerity in public spending, reduce inflation, and ease the economy. We have succeeded in this before. We will succeed again.

Our fight against these exorbitant prices, which also increase inflation, will definitely be realized with some concrete steps in a short time." 

Stating that they have to take austerity measures to increase the welfare of the nation, Erdoğan said, "As a government, we are absolutely determined to do whatever is necessary for this."

CITIZEN WELFARE

Erdoğan responded to questions regarding recent complaints about exorbitant prices, especially in food, with the following words: "Our primary priority here is, above all, the welfare of our citizens. We can introduce new and more deterrent measures in the fight against exorbitant prices. As long as excessive greed for profit is not curbed, the problem will continue no matter how much you increase salaries. We cannot allow this, especially in mandatory items like food. Our relevant ministries are currently working on the necessary measures. Our fight against these exorbitant prices, which also increase inflation, will definitely be realized with some concrete steps in a short time. The issue of writing prices on packaging can also be considered. We cannot compromise here; we will go after it. We will never allow our nation to be crushed under the burden of exorbitant prices. Whoever does this will pay the price dearly."
