Expenses increased by more than 44 percent: The cost of getting married in Istanbul is staggering

While 2025 has been declared the "Year of the Family" with the goal of encouraging marriages, economic difficulties are making this goal challenging. According to data from the Istanbul Planning Agency, marriage expenses in Istanbul, including items such as home appliances, furniture, and renting a house, have reached 850 thousand 95 TL. For those who prefer a country wedding, this figure can go up to 982 thousand TL. These calculations do not include additional expenses such as henna nights, jewelry, and honeymoons.

Home appliance prices increased by 36.1 percent to 142 thousand 870 TL, while furniture prices rose by 25.7 percent to 185 thousand 905 TL. The cost of renting a house reached 135 thousand TL with a 40.7 percent increase, while dowry shopping exceeded 250 thousand TL with a 49.3 percent increase. Wedding hall rentals also rose by 88.3 percent compared to last year, reaching 131 thousand 800 TL. Country wedding venue rentals reached 263 thousand 600 TL with a 12.2 percent increase.
